White Papers
Learning and development has its share of challenges that every practitioner meets sooner or later, whether you designed your first course last month or have been leading programmes for years. This white paper series is where I take on those challenges one at a time. Each paper focuses on a key issue in L&D and brings together what I have learned from designing learning across healthcare, NGO and workforce development settings; the research behind it; and original frameworks I have developed in my own practice.
The goal is to give L&D professionals ideas they can put to work on real projects, and the series will keep growing as I take on new questions.
The Modern Way of Working with Subject Matter Experts
Working with SMEs is one of the hardest parts of L&D work, for designers just starting out and for experienced practitioners alike.
This paper introduces the Presence and Transfer Gridâ„¢, a practical framework for recognizing four kinds of SME and working with each one to get the best knowledge into the course, with clear guidance for those who are new to the field.
More papers are on the way, each one exploring another challenge that shapes how learning is designed, delivered, and measured. If you would like to know when the next paper is released or to talk about how these ideas could apply in your organization, I would be glad to hear from you.
